Are SpatzWear products waterproof?Updated 18 days ago

The answer depends on which SpatzWear product you are asking about. Here is a breakdown by product type.

Neoprene SPATZ overshoes — fully waterproof

The neoprene SPATZ are our original product and are designed to be fully waterproof:

  • The neoprene material itself is waterproof and hydrophobic — it actively repels water
  • The seams are heat welded and taped, making them waterproof throughout
  • The bottom opening is lined with a Liquid Seal barrier designed to stop water getting in past your shoe

That said, in very wet or sustained conditions, water will eventually find its way in through the top of the overshoe or up past your shoe. The beauty of the neoprene design is that — just like a wetsuit — any water that does get in is quickly warmed by your body heat, keeping your feet comfortable far longer than any other overshoe on the market.

Aero overshoes and oversocks (AquaSokz, Windsock2, Windsock Pro) — water-resistant

The aero overshoes and oversocks feature a waterproof main panel that repels rain and road spray effectively in most riding conditions. They are designed for aerodynamic performance and wet weather protection rather than full waterproofing in the way that neoprene SPATZ are.

For sustained heavy rain or very cold and wet conditions, the neoprene SPATZ overshoes provide a higher level of waterproofing and thermal protection.

Squadron Jersey — not waterproof

The Squadron Jersey is a performance aero jersey designed for speed and comfort across a broad temperature range. It is not waterproof. The shoulder and chest fabric panels provide a degree of wind resistance, and the jersey dries quickly after rain or sweat. It features a water-resistant zipped pocket to protect valuables, but the jersey fabric itself is not waterproof or water-resistant.

For protection from rain on the bike, the Squadron Gilet is designed to layer over the jersey.

Convoy Bib Shorts — not waterproof

The Convoy Bib Shorts are a premium performance bib short designed for comfort and endurance. They do not feature a DWR coating or waterproofing. The fabric is protective and well-suited to spring and wet weather conditions but is not designed to repel water. They are best used with an overshoe for full wet weather protection.

Squadron Gilet — fully waterproof

The Squadron Gilet is made from a waterproof, breathable fabric and is designed as a true four-season garment for protection in any weather. It provides a full waterproof barrier when layered over the Squadron Jersey, making it the ideal combination for changeable or wet conditions.

Winter kit (WINTR jacket, WINTR bib tights, BIBZ2) — waterproof and windproof

SpatzWear's winter range is engineered specifically for cold, wet, and windy conditions. The WINTR jacket and WINTR bib tights feature targeted thermal zones, windproof panels, and waterproof construction designed to keep you riding through the harshest winter conditions.
